Formal vs. Informal Modes of Address
When you are greeting someone you already know, hola, or hello, is a perfectly acceptable greeting. However, Latin Americans are often more formal than their American (norteamericano) counterparts. If you are meeting someone that you don’t know, use the more formal, “Good morning,” or, “Good afternoon.”

Buenos días. Good morning.
Buenas tardes. Good afternoon.
Buenas noches. Good evening.

It is even more polite to add a formal title afterwards, like

Buenos días, señor. Good morning, sir.
Buenos días, señora. Good morning, ma’am. (Used for married women.)
Buenos días, señorita. Good morning, miss. (Used for unmarried

When you Travel there is one thing for certain that you must find and that is a place to stay or otherwise known as an Accommodation. After it has taking you a very ,very long time in getting to your destination that very last thing that you want is to have trouble finding a place to stay. Our goal here is to make sure after this lesson that you will not have any trouble in receiving the appropriate accommodations.

To find the appropriate place to stay you will need to learn to speak spanish and say :

¿Dónde hay...?, which in English means, Wheres a ....?

The sentence structure remains the same as in English, so you would replace ..... with the place you are enquiring about. For example:

¿Dónde hay una pensíon con desayuno/ un albergue juvenil / un hotel, which translates into, Where's the bed and breakfast / youth hostel / hotel.

When travelling, many times you will want to know a little bit about the place you are going to stay before you actually decide to stay there. A good way to find this out is to ask some of the locals and get their opinions.

¿Puede recomendar algún sitio....? ,which in English means ,Can you recommend somewhere?

Of course, some people will want different accommodations. So if you were a little tired and you wanted a place to just crash you might ask:

¿Puede recomendar algún sitio cercano? which translates to, Can you recommend somewhere nearby?

Now if you were planning a trip away with your spouse, you may want to ask:

¿Puede recomendar algún sitio romántico? ,which means, Can you recommend somewhere romantic?

Or..

¿Puede recomendar algún sitio de lujo? which means, Can you recommend somewhere luxurious?

You will of course need to know where you are staying........Even if it is to just tell the taxi driver where to take you.

¿Cuál es la dirección? ,translates to, What's the address?

Now you are at your destination Hotel here are some more things to say :

Me llamo Roberto, he hecho una reserva, which means, My name's Rob ,I have a reservation.k

Or you can ask :

Quisiera reservar una habitacíon por tres noches, whcih translates to, I'd like to book a room for three nights
